Frequently Asked Questions about YOUTH 2000

What age youth can attend?

Young Catholics ages 13 to 30. Most participants are high school age. All minors 13-17 must be chaperoned (in groups of up to seven per chaperone).

What does the weekend cost?

The fee of $50 per youth includes meals and live music. Only $40 per chaperone. Mail by Oct. 15 for $10 Early Bird Discount! Need-based assistance is available on request.

Is this an overnight?

No. A light breakfast is available Saturday and Sunday; there is lunch and supper Saturday, plus lots of snacks along the way. Please eat before you arrive on Friday.

What's the deadline for registration?

Mail by Oct. 21. Space permitting, walk-in registration will begin at 5:30 PM Friday, Oct. 28.

Can my child leave for another commitment?

Yes. Students may leave during the event if they give us a signed note from their parent/guardian. Their chaperone must sign them out. Students should return as soon as possible.

What does a chaperone do?

You get to attend the retreat with your group throughout the weekend, enjoying all the great activities — talks, music, fellowship, food, and more. Getting to see young people "blossom" over the weekend is a true joy!

What is the schedule?

Each day is packed: daily Mass, rosary, Eucharistic adoration, opportunity for Reconciliation. Lively preaching by priests and brothers on fundamentals of the faith. Dynamic live music. Small group sessions and kids’ testimonials…all this and pizza too! See ABOUT US for the timeline and topics.

What is the set-up?

Everyone gathers in the large gym for the retreat (talks, music, Mass, prayer, testimonials, etc.). Meals and snack breaks are in the school cafeteria. Handicap accessible; carpet squares provided; chairs available. Dress casual, comfortable, modest.

What about medical needs?

Parents should make sure participants bring necessary medications and supplies, such as inhalers. Please notify your child's chaperone about any medical issues. First aid supplies are available and a hospital is nearby. Inform the front desk attendant of any emergencies.

How do the small groups work?

We separate boys from girls, sort by age, then assign them randomly into small groups. College-age groups gather separately. An adult leads the discussion, referring to the Catechism of the Catholic Church as needed. Groups meet Saturday morning and afternoon.

What's with the T-shirts?

Members of our Covington Diocese YOUTH 2000 Core Team will be visible in their Ts throughout the weekend, helping the Friars and Sisters and the event organizers. The Core Team has been meeting for several months to prepare for and to promote YOUTH 2000 in their schools and parishes. Thanks, Core Team — way to lead the Retreat!
